It's busy on our radio spectrum. All kind of devices produces RF. Since a week I do have a new wireless router for my home network. I need it because the XYL and kids are using all kind of wireless devices. WiFi, Blue tooth, cordless phones and laptops. When colleagues of the XYL are here, they want to work on their laptops. But a few times a day the Internet was down here. Every time I had to reset the modem and router. No idea what causes it. Now I know, it's me. When I transmit with low power up to 30 watts, I have RFI. The router stops working. I can take all kinds of actions, like decrease RF via power lines. But with 5 watt or less I do not have any problem. So I decided to work QRP only, the best thing to do. All problems are solved instantly. And as you all know, real QRP is more fun, so I am glad that my router prevents me to work more needless power. Thank you.

Good morning Paul, I am all to familiar with RFI and sometimes it is easy to learn to get along (going QRP)with the result of our RFI than go to crazy lengths to solve it.
ReplyDeleteHallo Paul, heb gisteren pas voor de 2e keer in een jaar het modem gereset. Gelukkig heb ik verder geen problemen met RFI op internet/telefoon/radio of TV. Maar ben er wel bekend mee hoor. Vroeger veel problemen gehad op de HiFi van m'n ouders, de TV helemaal zwart beeld als ik aan het zenden was en het electronisch orgel van de overburen en van m'n zusje bleken zeer goede ontvangers. Als ik wist wat ik nu weet had ik alle problemen opgelost. Maar ja....
ReplyDeleteWat betreft jouw probleem, het is de moeite waard om de kabel van de adaptor en de kabel vanuit de muur/of telefoonkabel (weet niet of je ADSL of kabel internet hebt?) eens door een ferrietklem te halen als 1 wikkeling. Zo dicht mogelijk bij het modem. Als je geluk hebt ben je van de storing af en het scheelt ook nog in storing op de ontvangst van HF. 73, Bas
I have a similar problem. A modest amount of power on 80m kills the broadband connection. I don't know how to fix it but I can live without the internet for the small amount of time I use 80m.

ReplyDeleteHallo Bas, ik heb een kabel aansluiting. Breedband 120 Mbits/sec. Voorheen een router met alleen kabels, geen draadloze. Ja, misschien dat ik even wat ferrietringkernen ga halen om de AC kabels (die bedoel je ook?) of moet ik ook de internetkabel voorzien van ferrietringen? 73 Paul

ReplyDeleteLike Julian a modest amount of power on 80m kills my broadband connection too. In my case I know why; My 80m/40m trap dipole runs down the garden but on one leg the 40m trap is about a foot from house so the rest of that leg runs over the house and the RF on 80m couples with the house wiring. I also have a 'Stealth' dipole for 17m tucked under the guttering on one side of the house. 17m not only wipes out my broadband and TV but also comes through on some of my computer speakers. Moving the 17m dipole in to free space 10 feet from the house cures the problem, but is not practical due to the number of other antennas I have up.

ReplyDeleteAls het niet lukt het modem te ontstoren, kun je proberen de eindgevoede draad, net als een Zepp, via een 300 ohm lint aan te sluiten. Misschien helpt het als de antenne wat verder van het huis hangt.

How these guys run 800w+ from a closely populated residential area and say they have no problems beats me - there must be all sorts of problems going on that they are either unaware of, or do not want to know.
