You can't work all of the Hams all of the time. It’s matter of power, antenna, propagation, sunspots, and a lot of luck. Sometimes I hear nearby radio amateurs working DX stations one after another. And I didn’t hear a thing. And they say: ‘You’re 5 and 9 here, loud signals.’ What’s wrong with my dipole or vertical? I think we live in parallel worlds. Do they make contacts through worm holes? I don’t know, but it is sometimes frustrating. There must be something magic about radio transmissions. Last week I heard an EA7 station working a G station on 17 meter. By the way I love 17 meter because it’s a practical noiseless band with fine signals. Anyway, the two stations were experimenting power levels. First the EA7 station starts with 100 watt (barefoot) he was 5 6 – then he decreased his power to 50 watts. He was 54. No problem at all. Then he goes to 10 watt. Still OK, report 52. Finally he was running 1 watt and still I could copy him, with no problem at all. Why don’t we all use QRP? Everything in life is relative. When I read QRPp bulletins about transmissions of making QSO’s with milliwatts, then 5 watt or 10 watts is almost QRO. Barefoot is ridiculous when others use 500 to 1500 watt. But, David beats Goliath, so keep up the faith that 5 watt will do. I can’t work all of the hams all of the time. When I turn on the rig, I start without any expectation, just believing I can make wonderful QSO’s and sometimes I do. I like to chat with someone from the UK or DL. I don’t mind where they come from. And when I came across a DX, it will make my day for sure. 3000 km or more is really DX for me. QRP is a kind of religion. When I commit a sin by using too much power, I feel guilty. When I see my 2x15 meter dipole and 7,2 meter vertical I think ‘What am I doing?’ My Miracle Whip with 10 meter wire was doing OK. Will I become mad? Someone has to stop me, please.Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Today conditions are poor again. I noticed no activity on 15 meter or higher bands. Though I heard a JA1 station very good on 17 meter and a N4 station on 20 meter. But they didn't hear me. And yes I stick to my 5 watt today. So I wander around on 20 meter and 17 meter and worked the following stations with CW: Z33A and E72W on 20 meter; HA1FF on 30 meter; and LZ2FY on 17 meter.

Nice 10 meter opening
The conditions today were slightly better then yesterday. I avoid the contest crowd by working PSK31 or CW. First I made two qso's on 40 meter: F1ICZ and DL3AAFwith PSK31. Then I noticed that 10 meter was open. I worked with 10 watt CW UA9FGR and RA9FFY both from Perm (3233 km) Asiatic Russia. With PSK31 RK9AK (3556 km) on 12 meter UA6EED and on 17 meter UN7BEW Kazakhstan (4197 km) not bad with QRP.

I must keep my rest, because I have a prostate Inflammation, doctor said. And I was thinking of a flu. Fortunately there is Paracetamol to ease the pain. Oh boy, now I feel like a old man. I didn't feel like to go for a contest this weekend. So I made some QSO's with PSK31 and JT65A. With PSK31 I worked UA3AET from Moscow and UA4NFQ from Kirov (2845 km) just with 5 watt. With my 5 watt JT65A I worked UA3WM with only 500 milliwatt! And IØDLP from Roma, Italy. So enough for today, 73 Paul

Puxing PX-777
This morning I made one QSO with E73EPA a club station from Pale, Bosnia-Herzegovina, on 20 meter with 5 watts SSB. With 5 watt PSK31 I worked on 40 meter: ES3RM and DG2PHE.

Mini expedition Marconi Beach
PSK31 on 17 meter: SV4FFK and UA3PHY
PSK31 on 40 meter: IW4BFF/QRP and GØJEI
CW on 30 meter: 9A2YM
CW on 40 meter: LY11MM
PSK31 on 17 meter this morning: UR5FLR
PSK31 on 15 meter this afternoon: UY7QL, RA4HL (2893 km) with 5 watt)
PSK31 on 40 meter this afternoon: IZ2LUU
The last 24 hours I received 35 countries with PSK31. Special is China BG7RNE and Japan JA9AVA.

I was PSK-ing today (10 watts) using HRD and Digital Master 78Ø. The feel of the program is very good. I can't stop PSK-ing with it. On 40 meter this morning: ESØOU Veljo from Saamaraa Island, Estonia. DL9SXX Hanno from Haar, Germany; and Yes, Paul M6PCZ from Torquay, UK for the first time! LX2FC Claude from Differdange, Luxembourg. We had worked before. On 15 meter UT5EPP Nick from Krivoy Rih, Ukraine. I heard on 10 meter 3B8GT Mauritius, but when I called him, his signal went down in the noise.

No contest
This afternoon I worked YL2MR Stan from Riga (see beautiful QSL card) with 5 watt RTTY on 20 meter. On 17 meter I spoke with UA3PQ Nick from Uzlovaya, Russia with 5 watt SSB. With PSK31 I worked RA6AN Fedor from Krasnodar, Russia (2717km) I suppose to do the RSGB contest on 80 meter, but it was madness. Too crowded, too many stations at the same time. They didn't hear me with 10 watts. Complete pile ups. And I didn't feel like to put up the power. So I went to the PSK31 part of the 80 meter band. There I worked with 10 watts: ES3RM Mait from Jarfakandi, Estonia. We had worked before but on 30 meter. Distance 1972 km. RV3LE Igor from Gagarin, Russia (1992 km) M1DBF Glyn, Rotherham. And on 40 meter with 10 watt PSK31: EB3JT Jordi from Vilafranca, Spain and RA1AJF Nikita from St. Petersburg, Russia. 1755 km.

Today I heard OF5ØRR again on 20 meter. I worked him with CW and 5 watt. With 5 watt PSK31 on 15 meter: RV3FV, RA4UAF and UA6CET. Enough for today. I did some WSPR-ing on 17 meter. It's a nice band, very noiseless and clear stations coming through from Canada and the USA. See map.Monday, March 15, 2010
Today I did some PSK31, I worked F5NMK (see photo) Alain from Plaine De Walsch, France; on 40 meter. Also G6PHH Philip from Marsh-Gibbon, England, DF1EU Rolf from Wuppertal, Germany; on 30 meter: 7S3F Sten from Sundsvall, Sweden; and HA1ZH Zoli from Zalaegerszeg, Hungery. All with 5 watt. Yesterday I cam across the web site of MØJHA, a nice QRP site. It kept my feet both on the ground. On 10 meter I made a QSO with F1MXE Dedier with 25 watts SSB. With 10 watts he couldn't pick up from the noise. In the afternoon I heard J28KO a station from Djibouti with PSK31 on 10 meter. I called him but he got lost in the QSB. Have a nice day! 73 Paul

We have to be patient to work stations with QRP. PSK31 was too crowded because of a contest. I heard a lot of stations, even DX, Japan, USA but unable to work them. With RTTY I worked TM7CC Ouessant Island and IMØMBP St. Peter Island, Italy both with 5 watts. This afternoon I was calling on different bands with the FT450 10 watt and or the dipole or the vertical but nope... nothing at all. Then I put on the FT817 with the Miracle Whip and 10 meter wire and yes, intermediately I was heard by RW3XZ (2095 km) with a 59 report. Also heard by YU1JW from Uzice, Serbia on 40 meter both with 5 watts SSB. That good old FT817, what a fine transceiver. Later on this afternoon I had a QSO with G7VQV Allan from Eastleigh, UK on 40 meter with 10 watt SSB. And that was it for today. Tomorrow is another day. 73 Paul

I am still testing my QRZ page. Now I used as background the eQSL photo. Now I am very pleased with it. The standard QRZ page is so boring. Thanks to Vlad UA6JD who was very helpful and for giving ideas.

This afternoon I had a qso on 40 meter with GBØVUL Bill from Thatcham, Berkshire, UK. It's special Event Station. On 15 meter I had a qso with UA6JD Vlad from Vladikavkaz, Russia (10 watt SSB) Vlad was very helpful to change my qrz.com page with another CSS. Now I have made my qrz.com page more personal. [take a look at www.qrz.com/db/pc4t]

Low down
I received this eQSL card from J5UAP (Guinea Bissau) DX stations send seldom eQSL's. so I am glad with this one. Today I heard 22 countries with BPSK31 on 15, 20 and 40 meter. Nice DX on 15 meter: ZS2I, HL4CYG and JA3GAK. On 40 meter I worked GB1FBS Graham from Brede, UK with 5 watt SSB. On 15 meter BPSK31: UT2MA, UR5ICG. On 20 meter with CW LZ1XL and on 40 meter 2EØWJC/QRP (5W) Billy with BPSK31. Late this afternoon I heard in the QRP part of 20 meter LZ2RS calling CQ USA and EA5AVL calling CQ DX. Maybe QRP stations searching for DX or QRO stations who are lost. //// Since I started WSPR in August 2009, I cannot say that the activity is increasing. It stays on the same level. I lost my interest in WSPR because I worked 'the whole globe' with 5 watts, and see the same stations over and over again in my log. I like to see more participants from Africa and South America. //// I made a QSO with the FT817 and Miracle Whip + wire and spoke to SP3JWG Jurek from Poznan, Poland on 40 meter with SSB. It's a wonderful transceiver. ///

Is life too short for making a small talk?
Conditions today? Yes and no. I did hear nice DX such as JA7AKH on 20 meter. He was really S9. [Listen to audio clip] Too many stations calling him. I call at the most 4 times. Then I stop. I hear strange behavior during the pile up. But OK... I worked on 20 meter 2 stations from Bosnia-Herzegovina: E73EPA Club Station and E73W. All the stations are in a hurry. Only a report and 73 and gone. Is life too short for making a small talk? On 15 meter I had a qso with UA6HBO with 10 watt SSB.

Guinea Bissau
I heard a pile up on 15 meter. It was for J5UAP Peter from Varela, Guinea Bissau. They worked split 10 KHz up. So I give a try and after 3 calls he came back for me. I was running 10 watt SSB. So this is my 75th DXCC QRP. On 40 meter I came across Tuc M3TUC from Carlisle, England. And it was a coincidence, because I was thinking of him, I worked him before in 2008 and I wonder how he was. And yes, there he was. We had a nice chat. Other stations on 15 meter: RX6FW Dima, he thought I was running about 100 watt. He couldn't believe I was running only 10 watts.
And SV8PKI Manolis from Samos Island, Greece with 10 watt SSB on 15 meter. Tonight on 80 meter I worked DR2010N Peter (DH1PS) from North Westfalen, Germany with 10 watts SSB.

ROS Non Grata List
Read on Rosmodem web site: "Some people think to keep telling lies on internet blogs is going to go free. People still trying to outlaw ROS although the FCC has given approval will not be able to make any QSO with ROS or any of the projects I have designed for the future.
“Non Grata” List:
K5OKC,AA6YQ, M6RDP,PE4BAS,KQ7W,ZL4PLM,DL4PLM,GM4PLM,NN4RH,G4ILO "
Please, please, put me on the 'NON GRATA' list too, thank you. [There is no possibility to comment on the ROS site because comments are off]
Update: I tried to get rid of the ROS 'sh*t on my computer, But the program doesn't have a normal uninstaller. So the software developer must take care for a proper way to uninstall the software. Now I have to remove the software in the register of the computer. Aaargh...
Update #2: the Non Grata List has been removed from the ROS site. Foolishness can be erased.
