Hi Paul: Thats very good - I tried some 17m Wspr a couple of sundays ago and had it running all day but I only ever had very close Eu stations (around 1000km) Interesting ! I noticed some NA stations on 40 meters the last couple of nights but have not worked any yet - I might be qrv during the weekend. Good Luck de Peter:
On 17 meter with 5 watt a lot of stations from the USA, average distance was 7000 km. 
On 40 meter with 50 milliwatt, average distance 700 km.
