I read by Julian G4ILO about a new digi mode Ros. Today I installed the software and tried on 20 meter. It was very busy on the Ros frequency 14.101 KHz. And I noticed two problems already: nobody used the proposed way to communicate. They do it the PSK way, but it is not handy with the 'macro' buttons. And of course they use too much power, 50 watts or up. Why? With this software QRP is the designated way to make contact. Just like WSPR, not more then 5 watts. The QRO users screw it up for QRPers. By the way, it is no love on first sight for me. I will try a little more, but for now I am not convinced. My first QSO with Ros was IW8WSR on 14.101 KHz.With WSPR this afternoon I was transmitting with 1 watt on 20 meter. The best DX was RN9AOM from MO02el 3669 km. With 500 milliwatt on 40 meter best DX was LA9JO from JP99gb 1967 km.
Hi Paul. I too worked IW8WSR this morning. But I too am unconvinced about the need for this mode on HF. It takes too much bandwidth, and too many people are trying to make QSOs on the same frequency, with the result chaos and no weak signal contacts are made.

ReplyDeleteIk heb vanmorgen ook 2 qso's kunnen maken op 20M. Wat mij opviel was dat er vrij regelmatig onzin op het scherm kwam.

Het is hetzelfde als JT65A uiteindelijk. Stations die gewend zijn met een KW te werken vinden 50W QRP. Jammer...73, Bas

Hallo Bas, alles relatief, zo zie je maar ;-) Ik beschouw alles onder de 50 watt toch ook wel als low power. Maar ik vind het jammer dat programma's die geschikt zijn om signalen van -35 db te pakken bij voorbaat geschikt zijn voor qrp onder de 5 watt. Als ze daar met grotere vermogens op gaan toeteren op een klein stukje bandbreedte dat begrijpt ik niet zo.
